I've heard too many horror stories from clients who used other bakers and got a call saying the cake fell over in the car. Here's exactly how I handle delivery and why it matters.
Delivery is the part of this job that nobody talks about but everybody cares about. You can make the most beautiful cake in the world and it means nothing if it arrives damaged, late, or melted.
I've thought a lot about how I handle delivery, and I want to be transparent about it — because I think it's one of the things that sets me apart and I want you to know what you're getting.
I Personally Deliver Every Cake
This is non-negotiable for me. I don't use a delivery service. I don't hand it off to a family member. I load the cake myself, I drive it myself, and I set it up myself. If something goes wrong in transit — which is rare, but it happens — I'm there to fix it on the spot.
I've heard too many horror stories from clients who used other bakers and got a call saying "the cake fell over in the car." That's not happening on my watch.
Where I Deliver
I'm based in Leesburg, VA and I deliver throughout Northern Virginia and Loudoun County:
- Leesburg (home base)
- Ashburn and Sterling
- Lansdowne and Purcellville
- Middleburg and Waterford
- Herndon and Reston
- Chantilly and the Dulles corridor
- Falls Church and Fairfax
If you're outside this area, reach out anyway — I may be able to accommodate depending on the event.
How I Keep Cakes Safe in Transit
Tiered cakes are built with internal dowel supports. For very tall or sculpted cakes, I sometimes transport tiers separately and assemble on-site — it's safer and the result looks better. I keep the car cool and I drive like there's a cake in the back. Because there is.
What Delivery Includes
When I deliver, I don't just drop the box and leave. I set the cake up on your table or display, do any final touch-ups, make sure it looks exactly right, and take a photo before I go. For weddings, I arrive 1-2 hours before the reception so there's no rush.
One Last Thing
Take your cake out of the fridge 1-2 hours before serving. Cold cake doesn't taste as good — the flavors open up at room temperature. I always remind my clients of this and I'm reminding you now.
If you have questions about delivery for your specific event, just ask. I'd rather over-communicate than have you worried about something on your big day.
